Gold Coin is my favorite Chinese restaurant, by far. They have a great Egg Foo Yung sauce, and good selections for a sit-down dinner.
Four stars, for what it is. Gold Coin is not authentic Chinese food. Don't go there and expect Shining Rainbow or Ala Shanghai. Gold Coin is the locally owned solution to PF Changs. It's Americanized Chinese food in a swanky, clean sit down restaurant with a decent cocktail and wine list. Service is always professional and quick. The menu is not imaginative, but comforting in that it's familiar. What to get? We tend to get the standards but the beef and broccoli is particularly good. It had a distinct ginger flavor that many brown Chinese sauces miss. Orange beef is also great. The fried rice is really the star of the place: real rice, fried with egg and pork. It's not yellow rice, but real and actual fried rice. So why four stars for a restaurant every town in America has? First, the staff is friendly and over the past two years made a true effort to know us. It's always very clean. Staff is accommodating as well. They have in the past given us lunch sized portions for dinner... And charged us for only the smaller portion. They have created combo plates for things not on the combo menu. Second, it's reasonably priced. And finally, I just like it.
